With everyone and everything leaning towards ‘online’,
wine sellers and wine consumers refuse to be outdone and
are now garnering like-minded people into growing online
wine communities. Individuals, on these online wine
communities could be doing numerous things, besides the
obvious online buying and selling of wine. These
activities include maintaining tasting notes of wines
they tried, joining specialized groups on wines like
‘before dinner wine’ or ‘after dinner wine’, champagne,
red wine, white wine and so on.

Participants on these online wine communities could be
anyone from those wishing to develop their taste, ardent
wine consumers, to wine connoisseurs. These online
communities are popular in most part of America, Europe
and Australia, and discuss wine considered ‘cheap’ to
‘vintage’. Online wine communities interact with each
other through discussion forums, electronic newsletters,
wine link directories and featured commentary, besides
social gatherings in physical space.
Reasons for the spurt in online wine communities are
numerous. For one, only a small percentage of wines
actually find their way to liquor stores and
supermarkets. The large majority of wineries are too
small to market their products and often excellent wines
are available only to tiny local markets.
Online wine communities have also made their appearance
with the increasing trend of consumers to purchase wine
online. Thanks to the internet, smaller wine producers
are putting up their products for sale virtually, and
online tasting notes of wine users, reinforces the
seller’s claims. This has resulted in a huge spurt in
purchasing of wines that were hitherto unavailable.
We're doing a lot of research to find interesting and
exciting clubs that will offer a unique way to for you
to find great wines from those out-of-the-way vineyards
that are otherwise very hard to find. Keep tuned, it's
going to be great!
